Post 18C - Evaluation - What Have You Learnt From Your Audience Feedback?

Feedback From Rough-Cut:

How We Responded to This:

Taking into consideration the feedback that I have recieved, we made the following alterations:
We changed the text messages recieved in the opening of the piece and towards the end of the piece to be black against a white background to really stand out, and we kept them on screen for a second longer so that it was clearer and easier to read.

We also cut out a lot of the silence within the bench scene as from where we had dropped the sound on several occasions there was a lot of silence, and feedback has showed that this wasn't as successful as we had hoped. To resolve this issue, we cut out some of the shot reverse-shot sequence which was silent and worked with the match-on action.

Therefore, from this I have learnt the significance of audience feedback as without it we would never have been able to correct these mistakes, and we would never of realised that the audience didn't feel that the sound dropping was as successful as we thought it was. With this audience feedback, we have been able to correct and amend these suggestions made, and result in a more successful short film.

My Reflection:

In conclusion, I have learnt from the feedback that gaining the opinion of our target market is highly beneficial as they can point out errors which we may not notice during editing, since we have seen it so many times. Audience feedback is absolutely essential as ultimately short films and indeed all media is made for and targeted at an audience in order to make money, and so without pleasing the audience it is very unlikely that our products will be successful.

The feedback of my postcard and my film review reassured me that my products related well to our short film, and were relevant to our short film, and that they looked realistic and professional. It also enabled me to check that my ancillary tasks were well suited for the target market, and they understood them clearly.

If I were to repeat this project I would consider gaining audience feedback from more people during the script writing stage, as more audience feedback would result in a more successful project. I would gain feedback from a range of people, male and female of a wide range of ages with very different interests to try and gain the different opinions of a fragmented audience.
